Cruise Terminal of Funchal Port
The new passenger Terminal of Funchal Port named as "Gare Marítima do Funchal" was inaugurated on the 31st May 2010 and is essential for the consolidation of this port as one of the most tradicional routes in the Atlantic.
With the capacity to accommodate in confort, security, quality and functionality, the thousands of passengers that annually transit in Funchal Port, the new Terminal is also an unusual building extended along the pier, with 170 meters long in an area of 3.000 square meters.
One of the main concerns was that the new infra-structure would not collide with the landscape and adapt to the constraints imposed by the pier. Another goal was for the building to be a reference to Funchal city, easily recognized even internationally.
The investment in the new Terminal reached 12 Million 800 Thousand Euros, a project co-financed by the European Union through the cohesion fund with 62,8%.
The construction of this new Terminal was considered essential by the Port Authorities of Madeira to promote the turn around, the interface between the port and the airport which allows tourists to remain a few days in Madeira, at the beginning or end of the cruise.Click here to see more details of the plan of the project
